Bio

During my A-levels was when I first discovered my passion for Physics. I was fascinated by how its findings could explain the physical world around us. I would spend hours every evening working on Physics and Maths questions and reading around these subjects. The aspect of problem-solving really appealed to me. We didn’t have worked solutions back when I did A-levels, so if I got a question wrong, I would have to keep trying different solutions until I finally got the correct answer. For the most challenging questions, I would have to repeatedly come back to them with a fresh mind over the course of a few days; it could take hours! But the satisfaction of finally getting the correct answer and seeing how all of the information fits together made it all worth it.

I took a gap year to gain some life experience and travel. I furthered my interest in Physics with work experience at the National Physical Laboratory, attended talks and read Physics books. I saved up some money by working in WHSmith (I absolutely hated this job!) and went on a two-month expedition to Oman with the British Exploring Society to do some ecological research. I caught a dragonfly that had never been found in that region before! Some pictures of this trip and others are further down on this page.

My family warmly greeted me upon my arrival at Heathrow, and to my elation, handed me an offer letter from UCL. I did a four-year course studying the fundamentals of the subject, which culminated in a master’s project on trapping small objects with lasers. If I could spend the rest of my life doing endless degrees I would! Alas, bills must be paid, and I am of humble origins!

I began tutoring during my degree. My ambition since A-levels was to go into academic research. But soon into teaching my first few students, I could see a new path for my future emerging. Helping people, directly impacting students’ futures, learning new things, bringing the same joy to learning that I experience, running a business and the flexibility and reward of being self-employed swayed me to become a private tutor. My goal is to help people of all backgrounds, with free resources that anyone can use, courses affordable for the average family and one-to-one tutoring for those more fortunate.

Since graduating in 2016, I have been tutoring full-time and have given thousands of hours of lessons. I have helped hundreds of students of different abilities achieve their potential through my insights and their hard work and dedication. I continue to grow and evolve by always looking for new methods of teaching and ways of connecting with my students. There is something truly special about not only helping someone achieve the grades and improving their learning efficiency, but also having a lasting impact on their aspirations and values at such a crucial developmental time in life. I hope to help you on your journey too!

Gap year expedition to Oman 2012

2 months in the wilderness, sleeping under the stars in only a sleeping bag, with no contact from the outside world. This was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.
